Background

The Meekatharra Northeast Cu-Co Project comprises two Exploration Licence applications in the Murchison Mineral Field, northeast of the historic Meekatharra township. The two applications — E51/2325 (37 blocks) and E51/2326 (28 blocks) — together cover approximately 196 km² of ground in the Murchison Goldfields district, a region with an extensive mining history (districtscale gold production estimated at approximately 35 Moz to date) and several currently operating gold mines and processing facilities.

The project targets copper and cobalt. Cobalt is included on the Australian Government’s Critical Minerals List under the Critical Minerals Strategy 2023–2030. Copper is included on the Australian Government’s Strategic Materials List. Both commodities are foundational to electrification, battery storage, and the energy transition.

Geological Setting (high-level)

The application areas lie within the Murchison Domain of the Youanmi Terrane, Yilgarn Craton — the same Archean greenstoneand- granite framework that hosts recognised Cu-Ni-Co-PGE prospectivity across the wider Murchison region. Nearby active exploration ventures of relevance include the Nanadie Well copper project (north of Meekatharra), where Cu mineralisation occurs as fresh disseminated chalcopyrite within sequences of basalts/amphibolites, felsic volcanics and dolerite, and the Bedaburra Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Project (north-west of Meekatharra), which is reported as prospective for both laterite-hosted Ni-Co and primary magmatic Ni-Cu sulphide mineralisation.

The project is considered prospective for primary magmatic Cu-Co-Ni-PGE sulphide mineralisation hosted in mafic-ultramafic intrusive complexes — a deposit style well-recognised across the Yilgarn Craton and addressed in the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) Mineral Systems Atlas. Information presented here is based on publicly available GSWA datasets, WAMEX open-file material, and DMPE Mineral Systems Atlas references.

Project Status

Both Exploration Licence applications are lodged and pending grant. Any future field activity is subject to grant of tenement, statutory consents (including native title and heritage processes), and access arrangements with landholders.
