Background
The EaglesNest Project comprises a single Exploration Licence application (E59/3087) covering 8 graticular blocks (approximately 24 km²) in the Yalgoo Mineral Field, located south-southwest of Mount Magnet. Mount Magnet is a longestablished mining district in the Murchison Province with district-scale historical gold production of more than 6 Moz to date and multiple currently operating mines and processing facilities nearby.
The commodities of interest are copper, nickel and cobalt. Nickel and cobalt are included on the Australian Government’s Critical Minerals List under the Critical Minerals Strategy 2023–2030. Copper is included on the Australian Government’s Strategic Materials List. All three commodities are foundational to the energy transition.
Geological Setting (high-level)
The application area lies within the Murchison Domain of the Youanmi Terrane, Yilgarn Craton, on the southern flank of the Meekatharra–Mt Magnet (Meekatharra–Wydgee) Greenstone Belt. The Mt Magnet portion of this greenstone belt comprises a succession of steeply dipping interlayered mafic and ultramafic extrusive and intrusive rocks, felsic volcanics, and banded iron formations (BIF), intruded by granitic rocks. The regional Meekatharra–Mt Gibson structure provides the principal deformation framework along strike.
The project is considered prospective for primary magmatic Ni-Cu-Co-PGE sulphide mineralisation hosted in mafic-ultramafic intrusive complexes — a deposit style well-recognised across the Yilgarn Craton, with notable examples including Julimar (West Yilgarn). Information presented here is based on publicly available GSWA datasets, WAMEX open-file material, and DMPE Mineral Systems Atlas references.
Project Status
The Exploration Licence application is lodged and pending grant. Any future field activity is subject to grant of tenement, statutory consents (including native title and heritage processes), and access arrangements with landholders.
